Name: Talulah Riley
Birth Date: 25th September, 1985
Lives: London, England (with Tamsin Egerton) or Los Angeles, California (with fiancee, Elon Musk)
The only child of managing director of a security company Una Riley and former parlimentary candidate now film industry worker (who’s credits include writing episodes for ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Prime Suspect’ and ‘The Bill’) Doug Milburn, Talulah Riley was born on September 26, 1985 in Hertfordshire, England.
She knew she wanted to be an actress since she was very young, admiring the talents of Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth (who she would later co-star with) in the BBC adaption of Pride and Prejudice. She balanaced classes at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London with regularly attending some of the most prestigious boarding schools England has to offer; she first attended Cheltenham Ladies College, noteable alumni including fellow English actress Kristin Scott Thomas, then to Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, where Talulah attended alongside British television actress Laura Aikman, and finally Berkhamsted School, which educated the likes of Clementine Churchill (the wife of Prime Minister Winston Churchill). Having a strong belief in a good education, Talulah has an ongoing love of philosophy and English literature, however she admits, she didn’t really take her final year in high school seriously, classifying herself as “a real daydreamer … gazing out of the window”, sitting her A-levels only via a pact made with her parents. She has never opened the envelope with her results, nor has she cared to. Talulah currently studies physics and engineering through the Open University program, but admits that there is a “gap in my knowledge” in regards to the Maths! She is also sitting the SATS in maths and physics and California.
Starting from small supporting roles in hit British television series, such as Poirot and Marple, Talulah didn’t get her big screen role until 2005 when she was cast as the third eldest Bennet daughter in Pride and Prejudice alongside rising talent Carey Mulligan and Jena Malone, not to mention Hollywood heavyweights Keira Knightley and Dame Judi Dench! Her role in Pride and Prejudice opened doors for Riley, who then went on to star in other big screen flicks.
Her big television break came when she landed the starring role in Nearly Famous, a mockumentary drama mini-series which followed four bright and priviledged students; it highlights the dark side of performance schools and the hidden pressures faced everyday by the students.
Her most noticeable film role, however, is her rendition of Annabelle Fritton in the remake of the popular “school from hell”, St. Trinian’s in 2007. A slapstick British comedy which goes against conventional stories and boarding school scenarios, St. Trinian’s soon became a cult classic, and brought together an eccentric and bubbly cast, including rising British stars Gemma Arterton and Tamsin Egerton. Talulah also worked extensively with two British acting veterans, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett. Talulah is set to reprise her role as Annabelle Fritton, with the sequel, St. Trinian’s: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, set to premiere in December 2009 in London, England. She is one of the few (along with best friend Tamsin Egerton as Chelsea) from the original movie to return for the sequel.
Talulah has also starred in small budget independent films, including Friends Forever, a story of a group of teenagers haunted by the ghost of a friend, Wilder, in which Talulah plays an Anglo-Lebanese girl trying to find her way in the world and The Summer House, alongside ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’ heartthrob Robert Pattinson, an essential coming of age flim. Her small screen credits include a short-run role in Phoo Action, a futuristic kung-fu sitcom, and more noteably, alongside David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Doctor Who.
Engaged, with a 2010 wedding in mind, Talulah has always wanted to marry young and raise a large family. She met current partner Elon Musk, an entreupreneur who co-founded PayPal and SpaceX, at a nightclub. Talulah is predominantly quiet on her relationship with Musk, but has periodically released tidbits about their relationship to the press; the pair met on 3 July 2008, and were engaged by the end of July. She insists it wasn’t love at first sight, but knew “within three days” that she loved him. Best friend and co-star, Tamsin Egerton, is set to be Talulah’s maid of honour.
